Google has announced a slew of updates to six different Android apps, from the Password Checkup to TalkBack screen reader. Google Maps is also receiving an update of its own that adds a true dark mode throughout the entire app, not just when you're using navigation.

Google is also updating Android with an improved Messages app that will let users schedule text messages. Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Android Auto are also a part of the updates that Google has announced for Android users via a blog post.

Let's take a look:

1. Password Checkup

Google is rolling out Password Checkup to Android to help alert you about potential leaks or data breaches that may have exposed your existing passwords to hackers.

On Android, you can save passwords to your Google account, making it quicker and easier to sign into your apps and services using Autofill. Google has integrated Password Checkup into devices running Android 9 and above. This feature lets you know if the password you used has been previously exposed and what to do about it.

Now when you enter a password into an app on your phone using Autofill with Google, it will check those credentials against a list of known compromised passwords — i.e., passwords that have potentially already been stolen and posted on the web. If your credentials show up on one of these lists, it will alert you and guide you to check your password and change it. (Image: Google)

Once your Google Maps has been updated, you can turn it on for your entire phone by heading to Settings > Theme and pick Always In Dark Theme. Similarly, you can switch to a dedicated light theme by going to Settings > Theme > Always in Light Theme. (Image: Google)
