God is not bound by the shackles of any religion

God is that spiritual self of my existence that I can actually sense during the moments of sorrow and bliss. The moment when a child is born, a religious sanctity is inscribed to him/her and the child is taught to follow the customs and rituals that the family has been performing for ages, thinking that it is the path to attain the eternal blessings of God. But as a child born into a Punjabi family, God to me meant a daily ritual of going to the nearby Gurudwara and eating the tasty Kada Prashad as his blessings.

As I grew up a little, my family introduced me to the holy scriptures and as a child, more than understanding the words, I was interested in deciphering the meanings hidden in those words to understand the true message.

Those days, understanding the true sayings of life was God to me.

Then came the best time of my life when I was able to start the spiritual journey within and decoded what the real meaning of ‘God’ was for me. When I was eight, my uncle told me about the chanting of ‘Waheguru’ for the soulful rejuvenation of your mind, body and spirit. Since then till now, at the age of 27, it is a part of my daily routine and the soothing calmness filled with tranquillity that it produces is actually ‘God’ to me.

To me, He (God) is that eternal light that goes hand-in-hand with me throughout the day. Sometimes, it is in the form of a miracle, sometimes it is in the form of a sudden happiness, while sometimes He simply arrives as immediate help when I face any kind of difficulty.

And getting married into a religious Brahmin family, God to me is in the connection that I tend to feel during the morning prayers, where I am still trying to find out the hidden message in those prayers.

Remember, God is not bound by the shackles of any religion. He is indeed that one supreme power which, however, can be perceived as various human incarnations. You can only meet Him if you as an individual are ready to meet Him via travelling within your own spiritual self. For me, God is indeed a friend, philosopher and guide.
