TMC MLA from Chakdaha, Ratna Ghosh Kar’s speech urging TMC cadre to ‘chase and attack’ Central force jawans on poll duty has gone viral. The video – which is from yesterday – shows her urging TMC cadre to attack the central forces. She even requested Mahia Morcha members to pick up their brooms and ‘chase them away’.

After BJP filed a complaint against Ratna Ghosh with EC, CEO’s office has demanded a report from Nadia district magistrate.

In the video, while talking to TMC workers in a closed-door meeting, she says: “If you want to win a war, there’s nothing fair or unfair, democratic or undemonstrative way of winning it. You have to win it by any means. I have seen it in 2016 elections, how central force beat up our boys, there was bloodbath. This time, it is even more challenging, but there’s nothing to be scared.

I’ll go to each and every booth and we will not care about the central forces. And if the central forces are pro-active, I will request the Mahila Morcha members to pick up broomsticks and chase them away from our area.”

Days after the opposition parties complained of malpractices in the first phase of polls in West Bengal, the Election Commission has decided to deploy central forces at 80 per cent of over 5,000 booths in three Lok Sabha seats, where voting will be held on April 18.

Sporadic incidents of booth capture, smashing of electronic voting machines and intimidation of voters were reported from parts of Cooch Behar and Alipurduar on April 11.

According to an EC official, the authorities had initially decided to deploy central forces at 55 per cent of the 5,390 booths in Darjeeling, Raiganj and Jalpaiguri seats, but changed its mind following complaints of irregularities during the first phase of election.

"In the first phase, the central forces covered 51 per cent of the booths in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. Now, it has been decided that 194 companies of central forces will be on guard at 80 per cent of the polling stations in the three north Bengal constituencies," he said.

The other 20 per cent of the booths will be manned by the state armed police, aided with CCTVs, webcasting, videography and micro-observers, the official stated.

Popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed was ordered to leave the country immediately and his business visa cancelled, an official said Tuesday, two days after he allegedly campaigned for West Bengal's ruling TMC that sparked a political row.
West Bengal state BJP leaders Jay Prakash Majumdar and Sisir Bajoria also met the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ariz Aftab on Monday to register a complaint and urged him to take appropriation action over the alleged violation of the model code of conduct by the Trinamool Congress(TMC).
A video showing Ahmed and Bengali actors Ankush and Payal participating in a roadshow on Sunday to seek votes for Kanhaiyalal Agarwal, the TMC candidate from Raiganj Lok Sabha seat, went viral on social media.
"All should vote for the Trinamool Congress. All should vote for didi (TMC chief Mamata Banerjee)," Ahmed was claimed to have told voters while sharing the dais with Agarwal.
The Centre Tuesday issued a 'Leave India' notice and cancelled the business visa given to the actor.
Ahmed has also been "blacklisted" by the Union Home Ministry, thus jeopardising the prospects of his future travel to India.
"After receiving a report from the Bureau of Immigration regarding visa violations committed by a Bangladesh National, Ferdous Ahmed, the home ministry has cancelled his business visa and issued him a 'Leave India' notice. He has also been blacklisted. The FRRO Kolkata has been directed to ensure compliance of these orders," a union home ministry official said in Delhi.
