The 76th Golden Globe Awards served a lot of surprises when they doled out trophies for the winners in 14 categories of movies and 11 categories for TV on Monday morning (IST).

For the first time, an Asian-American co-hosted the show in the form of former Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh. She also picked up the award for Best Actress in Drama series for her role in BBC drama Killing Eve. Her co-host was SNL alumn and star of NBC comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine Andy Samberg. The duo earned thumbs up from critics and audience alike for the fabulous job they did to entertain the guests. Sandra Oh's speech about inclusion and diversity became one of the highlights of the show.

Big names in the movies were contesting to take the new Golden Globe trophies home. Christian Bale, predictably so won the award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his portrayal of former US VP Dick Cheney in Adam McKay's Vice. He thanked Satan for the inspiration! Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron's masterpiece called Roma also won Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film. Lady Gaga is first time nominated as a leading lady in Bradley Cooper's directorial debut A Star Is Born might have missed on winning in that category but she definitely was beaming when she lifted the trophy for Best Original Song for 'Shallow.'

Bohemian Rhapsody winning Best Drama Movie and Glenn Close bagging Best Drama Actress award for her role in The Wife were two biggest shocks of the ceremony. Mary Poppins Returns and Black Panther got no love.

In the TV section, the competition couldn't get any tougher. The Americans won best drama series but the lead pair Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell had to go empty-handed. Rachel Brosnahan scripted history when she picked up the award for Best TV Actress in Comedy for The Marvelous Mrs Maisel for the second year in a row. Netflix comedy 'The Kominsky Method' surprised by winning Best Actor for Michael Douglas and Best Comedy Series. FX's The Assassination of Gianni Versace defeated HBO's Sharp Objects.

Fist pump in the air! I was rooting for Justin Hurwitz to win this category for his music for Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy's 'First Man.' Tracks like 'Lunar Rhapsody,' 'Docking Waltz,' and Leon Bridges' poem 'Whitey on the moon' is the soul of this movie.

A completely deserving win for Rami Malek. It's not easy to attempt and play one of the most iconic figures in modern human history. Malek's transformation to become Queen frontman Freddie Mercury was unbelievable. The force of acting this person brought to the story took away all the attention from any flaws in the storytelling of 'Bohemian Rhapsody.'

25. Best Film - Drama

No love for 'A Star Is Born?'

'Bohemian Rhapsody' winning this category was a distant possibility since we had 'If Beale Street Could Talk' and 'Black Panther' competing. What HFPA wants is what HFPA wants!

Congratulations to the team.
