The 'After Hrs' review: 'Dangerous Ishhq'

Film: Dangerous Ishhq
Director: Vikram Bhatt
Cast: Karisma Kapoor, Rajniesh Duggall, Jimmy Shergill, Divya Dutta and Ruslaan Mumtaz
Rating: *

The much-hyped comeback film of Karisma Kapoor, Dangerous Ishq is a letdown, to say the least.  Yes, it’s completely women centric — Karisma is there in almost every frame — with ample scope for her to showcase her histrionics but the story that  spans four, or is it five eras, and talks about  janam janam ka pyaar isn’t worth it.

A super model Sanjana (Karisma) and her boyfriend Rohan (Rajniesh Duggal) are desperately in love with each other.

However, Sanjana wins herself a contract with a fashion agency in Paris and is all set to shift base for a year. When she is on the way to airport she is caught in a traffic jam and finds herself in front of a Krishna temple. Next  scene has her back in Rohan’s  house. Rohan is obviously elated, more so when Sanjana suggests that they get married. Even as they are discussing it, a gang of hoodlums with masked faces enter the house and beat up Rohan.

Sanjana  is hit on her head and she lands up in hospital.  When she regains consciousness, she not only finds herself alone,  the entire hospital is deserted. Suddenly,  someone is calling out to a girl called Geeta. Curious,  Sanjana follows the voice and finds Rohan, terribly wounded. He, however,  is dressed as a pathan and calls himself Iqbal.  He urges Geeta to save him from the people who are baying for his blood.

A flabbergasted Sanjana watches a group of people weilding  swords and forcing their way in.  Sanjana  hides Rohan in a room and as she is heaving a sigh of relief,  enters friend Neetu (Divya Dutta), who has been frantically looking for her. She takes her home and while  Chanda is preparing tea, Sanjana again hears a voice calling out to Geeta.

This time when Sanjana opens a door she finds a palace, which she enters clicking her killer heels. Rohan, as a pathan, urges her to read a Urdu newspaper which she does. When Sanjana tells Neetu about it,  Neetu takes her to a doctor who suggests Past Life Regression.

From here on begins Sanjana’s  and our tryst with the different eras and characters. In the meantime, Rohan has been kidnapped  and ACP Bhargav Singh (Jimmy Sheirgill) is on the case.

Linking the past to the present with flashbacks, we are told the whys and hows of the unusual happenings.  Problem is, it is far from convincing,  even if you suspend reality. Also, wonder why the film is in 3D when there are no thrills or chills in this thriller. The cinematography is good while the music is forgettable.

Of the performances,  Jimmy Shergill and Ravi Kishan are worth mentioning, while Rajneish as the loverboy has nothing much to do. As for Karisma, most of the times she looks heavily made-up and her acting is quite good but we have seen her doing better before.
