The Indian cricket team are said to be the most consistent team, with skipper Virat Kohli and bowler Jasprit Bumrah at the top spot in ICC Test rankings.

India's top three batsmen - Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kohli do most of the job when batting is concerned and hence, the middle order does not receive a lot of opportunities.

However, the issue the team keeps facing is that of the number four batting position.

The team management has tried many batsmen at the troublesome place but have not been able to solidify anyone for the spot.

With young guns performing well in different series and leagues, it would make sense to look at them and give them an opportunity.

A look at three potential batsmen who could solve the No. 4 spot debate:

1. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been in impressive form for India A and scored 218 runs including three fifties against West Indies A recently.

The 19-year old was awarded the Man of the series. However, he still could not make it into the senior team.

Gill then again went on to score a brilliant 204 in the third unofficial Test match against West Indies A.

He even earned praises from former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg. The Aussie player has asked the Indian selectors to consider Gill and rope him for the ongoing series in West Indies.

He could be a good option at the No. 4 spot.

2. Shreyas Iyer

From leading Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League (IPL) to lead India A in the Carribean island, Shreyas Iyer has shown the promise to be the future of Indian cricket.

Iyer has got a place for himself into the Indian side for the West Indies tour. The talismanic batsman scored 187 runs in the four innings at an average of 62.33 against West Indies A.

The young lad has scored 210 runs in the five innings at an average of 42 for the Indian team.

He, however, didn't get his opportunities despite performing well in the bilateral series against Sri Lanka in 2017. Iyer had even scored 463 runs in the IPL 2019.

The batsman has, however, said he does not want to stick to a particular number in the batting line up and wants to be as flexible as possible.

3. KL Rahul

KL Rahul - who has maintained his place in the Indian squad - has been a regular opener but with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.

He did struggle in the World Cup after being made to play at the No. 4 spot and then shifted to opener position after Dhawan suffered an injury.

The right-hander has scored 361 runs in the World Cup but his strike rate of 77.47 was not impressive.
