On the morning of September 11, 2001, at exactly 8:46am, American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the floors 93-94 of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At 9:03am, shortly after authorities jumped to evacuation, United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into floors 75-85 of the South Tower of the WTC.

In one of the worst terrorist attacks ever, for which Al Qaeda took responsibility, 2983 lives were lost. From the two flights, not a single person survived.

Within thirty minutes of the twoplanes hitting the World Trade Center, American Airlines Flight 77 was hijacked after its takeoff from the Dulles International Airport. Loaded with about 10000 gallons of fuel, the Boeing 757 aircraft was crashed into the US defence headquarters, Pentagon. As reported, 58 passengers on-board and 125 occupants of Pentagon died in that crash.

Some historic images shot on that day, tell the tale of how terrifying the situation was for those stranded around the Lower Manhattan area where the World Trace Center is located.

Here is looking back at some of those photographs on the 15th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001.
