WWE produced a two-hour PPV special titled WWE Superstar Spectacle 2021 to commemorate India’s Republic Day in a special tribute to the country.
On January 26, 2021, India grandly celebrated its 72nd Republic Day amidst fanfare despite the coronavirus pandemic. In the USA, the World Wrestling Entertainment launched a special two-hour PPV titled WWE Superstar spectacle. The event was to honour India on Republic Day and it showcased some of the future stars from India who might make a mark in the future for the WWE. The event was specially produced for WWE's Indian market. It incorporated elements of traditional and contemporary Indian culture and emanated from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, featuring WWE's virtual fan viewing experience, the ThunderDome. The event included four additional matches, which featured the participation of 10 Indian wrestlers who are working in WWE's developmental system.
The matches witnessed talent to an unprecedented level from India who is working in the developmental program as they aim to become the superstars of the upcoming generation. WWE announced that WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, Charlotte Flair, AJ Styles, Bayley, The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode, Natalya, Ricochet, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, and many more were in attendance at the event.
1. WWE India
The show kicked off with NXT Champion Finn Balor taking on Guru Raaj in what was a non-title match. Balor won the contest with a Coup de Grace. It was the ideal start to the event which was seen as a new way of ensuring that the Indian market was catered to. (Image credit: WWE Twitter)
2. Rey Mysterio
The eight-man tag team match saw Rey Mysterio hitting the splash after 619 for the pinfall as his team of Dilsher Shanky, Giant Zanjeer, Rey Mysterio and Ricochet defeated Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, King Corbin and Shinsuke Nakamura by pinfall. 3. AJ Styles
It seemed for a while that the unthinkable would happen. Jeet Rama looked like he would pull off a stunning win against a legend like AJ Styles but then Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm to clinch the engrossing contest. (Image credit: WWE Twitter)
4. Drew McIntyre
This was the WWE Superstar Spectacle 2021 main event of the night. WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair's address ahead of the contest as he wished everyone on the occasion of Republic Day was interrupted by Jinder Mahal and Bollywood Boyz. McIntyre hit Mahal with a backbreaker with Indus Sher closing out the contest. After the match, the respect that Indus Sher and Drew McIntyre displayed to the fans was simply magnificent. 5. Sareena Sandhu
Sareena Sandhu is looking to make waves in the WWE as a female wrestler from India along with Kavita Devi. Sareena Sandhu wrapped up the contest with pinfall after being set up by Flair who hit the Natural Selection on Natalya.
6. Triple H
Speaking after the end of the event, 14-time champion Triple H was happy with the progress made by Indian wrestlers. "Proud to see how far @JeetRamaWWE has come since joining @WWE. Sareena Sandhu impressed everyone with her debut and Triple H labelled her as one more addition as a 'ground-breaker'.
