Today, we will tell you about a few celebrities who went jobless at one point in time in their careers only to overcome the phase and emerge stronger and more popular than ever. 

 

1. Shaheer Sheikh

Shaheer Sheikh, who wowed everyone with his performance in 'Mahabharata' is a busy man these days. Recently, Shaheer talked about his financial struggles and revealed that he had nothing to do before he got an opportunity to work in the Indian epic 'Mahabharata'. In an interview with Zoom, Shaheer said, "Of course, there was a big gap between Navya and Mahabharat when I had switched to photography. I started doing photography. I used to do folios for my friends because there were few projects which were getting delayed. There was almost one year span where I was only doing auditions and roaming around. So, I think that was the phase between Navya and Mahabharat."

Nia Sharma recently opened up about being jobless for almost a year post her show 'Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai went off-air. While talking to radio host Siddharth Kannan, Nia said, "When I came to this industry, I was all by myself. I was fresh from Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, which was the show that made me. Uske baad poora ek saal ka gap tha (After that, there was a gap of a year)."

Dilip Joshi, popularly known as Jethalal is an actor who needs no introduction. One of the most loved actors on Indian Television, 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Dilip Joshi are synonymous with each other. In an old interview with TOI, Dilip had revealed that he was unemployed before TMKOC. He had said, "Acting is a risky business. No matter how big you are, you are never secure. You don't know when you will be out of work. Would you believe if I say that I was almost jobless for an entire year just before I signed Taarak Mehta…!"

Sumona Chakravarti, who rose to fame with 'The Kapil Sharma Show' took to Instagram and wrote a long note about being unemployed. She opened up about battling endometriosis since 2011 and said, "Some days i feel guilty, because boredom is privilege. I may be unemployed & yet am able to feed my family & myself. That is a privilege. Sometimes i feel guilty. Specially when am feeling low due to pms’in. The mood swings play havoc emotionally. Something ive never shared before. I have been battling endometriosis since 2011."

'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' fame actor, Ronit Roy once talked about being unemployed for 4 years. Not only this, Ronit even revealed that he went into depression because of being unemployed. In an interview with ETimes, the actor had said, "My first film was released in 1992 Jaan Tere Naam which was a blockbuster. It was a silver jubilee and silver jubilee of that day means Rs 100 crore movie of today. My debut film was of that level. 1992 it released and for the next six months, I did not receive a single call. Then I got all kinds of trashy work which I did for three years and around 96 all the work dried up." "For four years I was sitting at home. I had a small car, but I had no money for petrol. I would walk up to my mother's house for a meal as I did not have money even after being in a silver jubilee film," Ronit Roy had added.

Indian television host, Maniesh Paul was jobless for a year during the initial days of his career. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, he had talked about his wife who supported him and said, "After moving in with me, Sanyukta took up a job as a teacher; I was juggling my job & a few anchoring assignments. We barely got any time together, but she never complained… not once. Then in 2008, I was jobless for a year–I didn't even have the money to pay the house rent. But, Sanyukta took care of everything."

Shardul Pandit, who got fame from Big Boss revealed about having a tough time during COVID-19 lockdown. He didn’t get work and faced financial problems. During an interview with India Today, he said, “The moment I left the Bigg boss house, I was taken to my vanity. There I requested to speak to Salman (Khan) bhai for a minute. I couldn't cry or feel anything because I needed the show for money. The realisation is finally sinking in that it's over.”

'Tujhse Hai Raabta' fame, Reem Shaikh once said that she had no work for 2 years after her show 'Chakravartin Ashok Samrat'. While talking to ETimes, she said, "It was a break because I was genuinely not getting work."
