COVID-19: Thousands of people will intentionally infect themselves with coronavirus to test vaccine efficacy in UK

Coronavirus has caused governments across the world to panic across the world. Prestigious organisations like the World Health Organisation in collaboration with health infrastructures all across the world are trying everything in the power to control the spread of COVID-19.

However, Britain is following a bizarre strategy to stem the spread of the deadly virus. Termed the 'Human Trial Challenge', a hospital in London will intentionally infect  2,500 British citizens with coronavirus. The challenge will be held at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

It is to be noted that a new strain of coronavirus rapidly spreading across the UK with his transmission rates.

Coronavirus vaccine maker Moderna Inc said on Wednesday it expects that the immunity induced by its vaccine would be protective against the coronavirus variants reported in the UK.

The company said it plans to run tests to confirm the vaccine's activity against any strain.

Moderna's comments came amid the British government's plan to place huge swathes of England under its strictest COVID-19 restrictions as a highly infectious virus variant sweeps the country.

This is not happening for the first time. Earlier, such trials were conducted for diseases such as Typhoid, Malaria, and Flu. Earlier, special care was taken during these trials. Since the immunity in the youth is high, they are being included in this challenge.

The British Government will also pay to participate in this challenge. Volunteers who are intentionally coronavirus positive will get around four thousand pounds i.e. about four lakh rupees. These people will be kept locked in clinics for at least two weeks and changes will be monitored.
