Actor Irrfan Khan's untimely demise on April 29, 2020, after a two-year-long battle with a neuroendocrine tumour, created a void not just in the lives of his family members and in the hearts of his fans but also in the world of cinema as a whole, courtesy the powerhouse of talent he was! His death left the entire nation in shock and tears.

The late actor, who started off his career in films where he wouldn't even be noticed to being the recipient of India's fourth-highest civilian honour -- the Padma Shri, Irrfan's journey to success is nothing less than inspirational. And the credit, of course, goes to his stellar acting skills, his magnetic persona, his humbleness and the very fact that he would light up the silver screen every time he would make an appearance without having to do much but just the basic -- act.

All of these qualities and much more made Irrfan Khan the legend that he is and will remain for his fans across the globe.

And while he was a celebrity and a public person, his personal life wasn't much spoken about in the media. Irrfan would always make headlines for his fabulous performances, his fantastic films and the awards and recognitions that he received along the way. But it was only after his death that his wife Sutapa Sikdar and son Babil gave his fans a glimpse of the actor's personal life, sharing photos where one could see what a doting dad Irrfan was and a loving husband too.

As we mark Irrfan's 1st death anniversary today, let's take a look at some throwback photos that were shared by his family members in the last year.

Babil Khan's Instagram page is a box full of memories of his late father, actor Irrfan Khan. For the uninitiated, his parents met at the theatre institute -- the National School of Drama, and featured together in several plays. In March, Babil treated Irrfan's fans with an unseen photo of his parents from a play they did over three decades ago and a selfie they clicked together years later. "Mamma and baba in NSD cut to mamma and baba 35 years later," he captioned the image. Such fond memories!

These photos, shared by Babil, are proof of the unconditional love between Irrfan and his wife Sutapa. While posting the image, Babil captioned it, "It’s true, time does indeed slow down in the spaces between your breaths. And once you’ve dreamed of more, how could you settle for less. Perhaps, it was over because you knew. Or perhaps, because I grew. But the sky isn’t so blue When the sun is setting over you (sic)."

While sharing the second post, on the right, in which Irrfan seems to be sharing a moment with wife Sutapa, apparently on a film's set, where he can be seen whispering something to her, Babil wrote some thoughtful words. His caption read, "5 years too much, And now you're a stranger 5 years in love, Pickin straws out the haystack Flicking through the picket pages Of the books I never read through. And that’s just one half of it The other half is you, Gleaming through the wicked winter moon, I wish I could fit in your shoes. You have gone so far away. And I’m always just a little too late. Plucking the strings of my sitar to soothe, These Monday morning blues And I carried on like the wayward son, In the wayward sun, but I found myself roaming the wastelands. I was high when I witnessed my mother cry. I might never win. For, never will forget me, the unforgivable sin. Blood on her lips crippled my heart. Pierced my soul like an adamant dart. Ma, my ma, tell me you love me too. Ma, my ma, I would give it all for you. (Yo bro, u know I love you more than life itself. ) @sikdarsutapa (sic)."

The post also featured a couple of photos featuring Babil and his younger brother Ayaan.

Sharing a throwback photo of his dad, Babil wrote some thoughtful words alongside it, expressing how much he misses him and would rather keep dreaming about him than waking up to calls of film offers. "For in my dreams, I have no knowledge of your desertion. In my dreams today, you told me you were about to leave me and you held me for so long. Imagine the fact that I just woke up cause my phone rang for yet another offer to act, for yet another film. Now what sense does all this make without you Baba? I’d rather keep dreaming. (Tears make it hard to type, someone invent a phone for people that cry a lot plis)," Babil captioned the photo.

Sharing another photo on his Instagram account with doting dad Irrfan, Babil wrote alongside the image while expressing how he hates getting up everyday to the fact that his father is no more, "I slept for 14 hours and I didn’t want to wake up cause I was dreaming about you. Waking up is the worst, I hate realising everyday that you're gone. You didn't say anything, we just laughed. (He’s playing the OG ‘bounce’)

When Babbil shared the most important lesson his dad taught him as a student of cinema

Sharing a photo of his dad holding him in his arms and looking at him lovingly, Babil wrote alongside it, "You know one of the most important things my father taught me as a student of cinema? Before I went to film school, he warned me that I’ll have to prove my self as Bollywood is seldom respected in world cinema and at these moments I must inform about the indian cinema that’s beyond our controlled Bollywood. Unfortunately, it did happen. Bollywood was not respected, no awareness of 60’s - 90’s Indian cinema or credibility of opinion. There was literally one single lecture in the world cinema segment about indian cinema called ‘Bollywood and Beyond’, that too gone through in a class full of chuckles. it was tough to even get a sensible conversation about the real Indian cinema of Satyajit Ray and K.Asif going. You know why that is? Because we, as the Indian audience, refused to evolve. My father gave his life trying to elevate the art of acting in the adverse conditions of noughties Bollywood and alas, for almost all of his journey, was defeated in the box office by hunks with six pack abs delivering theatrical one-liners and defying the laws of physics and reality, photoshopped item songs, just blatant sexism and same-old conventional representations of patriarchy (and you must understand, to be defeated at the box office means that majority of the investment in Bollywood would be going to the winners, engulfing us in a vicious circle). Because we as an audience wanted that, we enjoyed it, all we sought was entertainment and safety of thought, so afraid to have our delicate illusion of reality shattered, so unaccepting of any shift in perception. All effort to explore the potential of cinema and its implications on humanity and existentialism was at best kept by the sidelines. Now there is a change, a new fragrance in the wind. A new youth, searching for a new meaning. We must stand our ground, not let this thirst for a deeper meaning be repressed again. A strange feeling beset when Kalki was trolled for looking like a boy when she cut her hair short, that is pure abolishment of potential. (Although I resent that Sushant’s demise has now become a fluster of political debates, but if a positive change is manifesting, in the way of the Taoist, we embrace it.)"

In this now-deleted photo that Irrfan Khan's son Ayaan had posted on his account last year, the father and son duo are seen riding a motorcycle. While the star kids looks cute as a button, Irrfan's expressive eyes do all the talking for him in the photo.
