The remainder of 2023 is big with clashes at the box office – big films releasing together, often too the detriment of one another. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki will famously clash with Prabhas’ Salaar, while Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal will face off against Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur. Yet, there is one big film that is getting a ‘solo’ release. And if one looks at the track record of its lead star, it’s hardly surprising because he has continued to avoid clashes for 14 years now.

The stars with whom nobody wants to clash with

The film that is getting a solo release despite this packed release calendar is Yash Raj Films’ Tiger 3 and its lead star is Salman Khan. The actor is undeniably one of the biggest crowd-pullers in Indian cinema. The superstar is returning to his iconic character of Tiger after years and the anticipation is palpable. The film has a release on November 12, ahead of Diwali and despite the festive weekend, no other big filmmaker has gambled to clash with Tiger 3. In fact, the last 16 releases of Salman going back to Dabangg in 2010 have all been solo releases.

Salman’s string of solo rleases

Salman Khan has had a total of 16 films released in the 13 years since Dabangg 1 in 2010, which include Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Jai Ho, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, Sultan, Tubelight, Tiger Zinda Hai, Race 3, Bharat, Dabangg 3, and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. All of the above-mentioned films had solo releases at the box office. While several films were announced to be released alongside Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, Sultan, and Tiger Zinda Hai, considering the hype and the anticipation surrounding the film, the films were postponed. Interetingly, almost all of Salman’s films in this period were hits (with the notable exceptions of Tubelight and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan).

On Wednesday, trade analyst Raj Bansal shared his old tweet from 2019, where he had written how no hero dares release their film with Salman Khan. While resharing it now, he wrote, “5 saal baad Aaj bhi yahi haal hai (still the same situation five years later).”

Salman’s return to Diwali with Tiger 3

Over the years, Salman has made Eid his own with most of his films over the last 20 years releasing on the festival. His last release Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan was no different. But with Tiger 3, the actor is now coming with his film on Diwali, something he hasn’t done in over 25 years. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, Tiger 3 is part of the YRF Spy Universe. The film, which also stars Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi, also includes a cameo from Shah Rukh Khan.
