There is a piece of good news for all of the Central government employees who are eagerly waiting for an announcement on the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.
Over 1 crore central government employees and pensioners will receive double benefits this year after the DA was temporarily frozen last year. Though it is not likely for central government employees and pensioners to receive payment with their July salaries, they will receive their dearness allowance with the September salaries.
The National Council of JCM, which represents central government employees, issued a letter recently with regards to the Dearness Allowance (DA). According to the letter issued by the office of JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra, a June 26, 2021 meeting with the Cabinet Secretary was truly concrete. During the course of the meeting, many decisions for the benefit of the central government employees were taken.
One of the decisions was taken regarding the DA after it being under suspension for 18 months now. The government will be restoring the DA from July, though the last three installments are unlikely to be paid in July.
JCM Secretary Mishra said that the cabinet secretary has agreed to remove the suspension on DA and Dearness Relief (DR) for the central government pensioners. The central government employees and pensioners are likely to get the previous three installments of January 2020, June 2020, and January 2021 together. All three installments are expected to come in September.
In addition to this, the government will also be paying arrears for July and August 2021 in September along with the salary.
DA will be 31 percent
The Central government employees are currently getting 17 percent DA. This will become 28 percent after adding the three installments. According to a report in Zee Business, the DA could be increased by 3 percent in June 2021 which will take the DA increase to 31 percent.
