The desi version of PUBG Mobile India, Battlegrounds Mobile India, is mired in a controversy after it faced a serious allegation over the weekend when an IGN India report claimed that Battlegrounds Mobile India was sending some user data to a server located in China.

The IGN report claimed that the data of Battlegrounds Mobile India players were being sent to a China Mobile Communications server and the server to which data of Battlegrounds Mobile India players was sent is owned by the Chinese state-owned telecom operator. The report added that Battlegrounds Mobile India also established connections with Tencent servers.

IGN, however, claimed in its new report that Battlegrounds Mobile India developers Krafton has fixed the bug and the data of Battlegrounds Mobile India players are no longer being sent to Chinese data servers. It is pertinent to mention that PUBG Mobile India was banned by the Indian government in September 2020 due to data privacy concerns.

Battlegrounds Mobile India developer Krafton was quick to respond and released a statement acknowledging the incident but said that "no data has been shared in violation of the privacy policy."

This is what Krafton further said:

“Krafton is fully aware of the recent concerns over data handling in regards to BGMI Early Access test. Similar to other global mobile games and apps, Battlegrounds Mobile India also uses third party solutions to provide unique game features."

"In the process of using these solutions, some game data was shared to third parties. Its privacy policy fully discloses that the app may transfer some user data, with users’ consent to the privacy policy and choosing to migrate their accounts. No data has been shared in violation of the privacy policy.”

“The data shared to third parties are ONLY to enable certain game features. In the meantime, Krafton will continue to closely monitor and protect any data being transferred to unexpected and restricted IP addresses prior to the official launch.”
