Mass grave of Hindus found in Myanmar

The mass exodus of Rohingya Muslims has snowballed into a large scale humanitarian crisis. Experts say that so far over 400,000 Rohingyas have travelled across the border from Myanmar into neighbouring Bangladesh, with the number going up by the day.

So far the massacre and removal of Rohingyas ensured that one saw this as crisis that only impacted Muslims. But as an exclusive ZeeNews report revealed, a mass Hindu grave was discovered and hundreds of Hindu families housed in makeshift relief camps in Myanmar’s northern state of Rakhine. The government has set up these camps to give support to these families and aid workers here say that at least 600 Hindu families are housed in these shelters.

“Many of these people have suffered at the hands of terrorists and insurgent groups such as ARSA (Arkan Rohingya Salvation Army). These terrorists have burned down their villages, killed their families and raped women,” says an aid worker on condition of anonymity.

The Indian government has been operating ‘Operation Insaniyat’ for Rohingyas coming in to Bangladesh, where relief material, such as food and other items, are regularly being sent in consignments.

But here it is a different story. So far, aid workers here say that humanitarian aid and relief items such as food, clothing and medicines are the need of the hour. But the world has been slow to respond and India too has not responded.

“We have received nothing from the Indian government so far,” says the aid worker when asked by the reporter as how much aid they were receiving from India.

It’s not just about the plight of these Hindu villagers trapped and unwanted in their own country. Experts also estimate that over 1,000 Hindu families have gone missing since the violence broke out, but so far little has been done by the Myanmar government to help trace them.
