Popular singer Jubin Nautiyal has made many swoon with his songs such as ‘Zindagi Kuch Toh Bata (Reprise)’ and ‘Lut Gaye’. But did you know that Jubin was once rejected by singer Sonu Nigam when he auditioned for the show ‘X Factor’.
In 2011, Jubin Nautiyal auditioned for the music reality show. He even went up to securing a place in the top 25. The show was being judged by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and it was hosted by Aditya Narayan.
Recently, an old video of Jubin has surfaced when he had come to Mumbai from Dehradun to take part in the auditions of ‘X factor’. His performance of the song ‘Tujhe Bhula Diya’ won him a round of applause from the audience who cheered ‘once more’ from the stands.
After the performance, the three judges discussed Jubin’s singing and gave their answers. Shreya Ghoshal said that although Jubin's singing needed work, it was a yes from her. Sanjay Leela Bansali said that Jubin sang from the heart, and it was a yes from him too. However, Sonu Nigam rejected him. “Meri taraf se na hain,” he said.
To this, Jubin replied saying, “I’ll try harder. Whatever you are saying, everything is right but ye mera best nahi tha. Mujhko pata hain (I know this wasn’t my best).” As Shreya and Sanjay had given him a YES, Jubin proceeded to the next round.

In an earlier interview, Jubin reacted on him being evicted out of reality show. “I never knew that people will dig up something that old and make it big. I was thrown out of the show and that made me who am I today. It is not about the judges, honestly. It was not their fault, it was not a wrong decision on their end. Being a small town boy, I was killing it back home, and I think mere paer zameen pe thay nahi. I think all of that got into my head, and going to a reality show broke that,” said Jubin.
Well, who knew that Jubin Nautiyal will in the future deliver several hit songs and make people go gaga with his melodic voice. He has received accolades for his music and his latest release, ‘Out Gaye’ has become a massive hit, garnering over 771 million views on YouTube in just three months.
