Often people like to connect to a WiFi network at a neighboring or public place to save their Internet data. However, there is a risk in doing so. Some people like to name their WiFi with weird characters like %$%^&*(@^!t or p%s%s%s%s%nc.

Warning for iPhones users

iPhone users are being warned about strange WiFi networks that could damage their phone's wireless connectivity.

According to the latest information, a bug has been identified that can often be present in such strangely named networks that can hang your phone as soon as it is connected, steal data and crash your phone.

The newly spotted bug could break the WiFi functionality of your handset and the only way to fix it is to reset your network settings.

According to the report published in The Sun, the problem was picked up by engineer Carl Schou. Schou named his own WiFi hotspot "%p%s%s%s%s%n." and then tried to connect to it via his iPhone. He then said that the WiFi on his iPhone stopped functioning and tweeted a video of what he says the bug did to his phone.

Some experts believe that this is because iPhones get confused by the percentage sign (%) at the beginning of the name of the WiFi. They think iPhones may interpret this as a command signal rather than just normal text.

Preventive measures

The best way to avoid this problem is never to connect to strange-looking WiFi networks that you're not familiar with.

However, if your phone has also become a victim of this bug, then first of all, go to the phone's settings and reset it. In the meantime, select Reset Network Settings and then Confirm. When your iPhone restarts, you can set up your WiFi again. Doing so will erase your previous WiFi passwords and settings.
