In an unexpected event, world's largest social networking site Facebook went down on June 19 at 1.40 pm, eliciting frantic queries from users across the world.
The social networking site faced a major downtime as users only saw the error message—"Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."
This is the second time this year that the social networking site is facing a server downtime.
Incidently, on Wednesday Jay Parikh, Facebook's vice president of infrastructure engineering while speaking at Gigaom Structure 2014 in San Francisco explained how changes to both software and hardware behind the scenes have enabled the world's largest social network to serve its users with relatively little to no downtime.
On being deprived of their daily dose of Facebook, users reacted on Twitter with little panache, to what many called an "online tragedy":
