Vijender Singh and company arrive at C'Wealth Games village

Indian athletes continued to trickle in at the Commonwealth Games Village with the 10-member boxing team led by Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh checking in at its residential block for the event.

    Indian athletes continued to trickle in at the Commonwealth Games Village with the 10-member boxing team led by Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh checking in at its residential block for the October 3 to 14 mega-event here today.

    Apart from the world number one Vijender (75kg), the team also comprises defending Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Akhil Kumar (56kg), Asian champion Suranjoy Singh (52kg) and Commonwealth champions Jai Bhagwan (60kg) and Dinesh Kumar (81kg).

    Accompanied by national coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu and Cuban coach B I Fernandes, the team comes here after months of training at the Naitonal Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala.

    Boxers join the weightlifters and netball players in arriving at the Village, which was severly criticised by international delegates some days ago. 

    The Indian shooting team, comprising among others Olympic gold-medallist Abhinav Bindra and World Championships bronze
    medallist Gagan Narang, will check in later tonight.
