Former Pakistan fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistani team after their first-ever defeat to Afghanistan yesterday. Afghanistan’s eight wicket win has handed Pakistan their third consecutive loss in the World Cup 2023 campaign. This has also recorded Pakistan’s biggest upset in the World Cup.

Post Pakistan’s performance in the marquee tournament, Akhtar has made some stern remarks on his Youtube channel. He takes a dig at the PCB and says “ Please learn to put the right man for the right job for god sake. Anyone is becoming chairman, for how long you will support mediocrity to prevail in this country. You will keep putting the average people in control, you will keep receiving such average performances. Country’s economy is anyways struggling, but then the cricket economy will also suffer.”

“This is the true reflection of the PCB what is being shown on television today. This is the direct impact of the choices that you have made for the last 20-30 years in cricket. This is the end result, you are getting,” he added.

He also targets the players and says that there isn’t a single player in the current Pakistan squad who has capability to inspire. “Tell me one thing, who in this team is inspiring. I have looked upon Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Steve Waugh, Allan Border, Viv Richards. Which cricketer in this team is inspiring enough for people to play the sport.

“Why do people still watch our videos? because we are inspiring the generation.”

However, he further talks about his support for the Men in Green. “I have played for Pakistan, my heart bleeds. My heart gets in a lot of pain when I see Pakistan lose. “

“But I will keep supporting Pakistan. If I would have been there, I would tell Babar, this is the worst that has happened. Now we are playing four teams and we will give our best.”

“If he is watching my videos, okay the system is messed up ...whatever it is, don’t focus on them. Play with the right people. Bring Fakhar back, give him the license. Bring Zaman, consider other options. Play some open shots, let's see what happens. Babar should also bat with the strike rate of 120. Pakistan is batting with the strike rate of 80 and 90. Gurbaz was playing at 122. Pakistan plays 150 dot balls in every match. Our main problem is the strike rate. We are scared and we don’t play aggressively.”

“But does Babar have the courage, does he have the stamina? Does he have the ability? Does he act like or become the 1992 Imran Khan? Can Shaheen become Wasim Akram? Can Haris Rauf become Aquib Javed, Can Shadab become Mushtaq Ahmed? Can this team reflect that? I believe it can be done but do you believe in that? God knows,” he further adds.
