This year saw its share of goals off the field. DNA picks moments from the World Cup which will be hard to forget.

Kiss of the year
From being the villain in round one to the leading lady after the final, Sara Carbonero saw it all. After being blamed for Spain’s first defeat, the Spanish skipper made sure he set the record straight with his girl. In a post-match interview after lifting the WC, Casillas planted a kiss on his girlfriend’s lips and sent women across the world into a tizzy.

Heavy rush to the altar
It seemed like the footballers needed something to do after making an early exit from the World Cup. So while the English footballers seemed to relish getting knocked out early and headed to their favourite vacation spots, a few players seemed in a hurry to get to the altar. Wesley Sneijder, Mikel Arteta, Phillip Lahm and Sol Campbell are a few who said ‘I do’. Best wishes y’all.

Psychic octopus
Even Nostradamus wouldn’t have seen this coming but Paul the Octopus was the undisputed hit of the World Cup. With his accurate predictions, Paul was the cynosure of all eyes from getting death threats to messages of love, Paul saw it all. He even managed to steal the thunder of the noisy vuvuzelas and Shakira’s Waka Waka. Unfortunately he died after the WC but only after getting his final prediction right. RIP Octo Paul.

Strip tease
People may not have known that Paraguay had a football team but a certain Larissa Riquelme made sure that all that changed this year. The model made a promise to the Paraguayan team that if they won, she would strip and run naked in the streets. Despite the incentive they lost the match. Not to worry, though she did strip on their return despite their loss, talk about taking your promises too far!
