Delhi Lt governor Tejindra Khanna today briefed home minister P Chidambaram about the overall preparations for the Commonwealth Games, including arrangements in the security front.

Khanna also apprised Chidambaram about steps taken to improve condition at the much-criticised Games Village, officer on special duty to Lt governor Ranjan Mukherjee said.

"The Lt Governor apprised Chidambaram about overall preparations for the mega event including steps being taken to improve condition at the Games Village," he said.

Chidambaram requested Khanna to visit the Village during the Games and oversee the arrangements there so that the guests do not face any difficulty.

There were severe criticism of the living conditions of the Games Village with some participating nations, including Australia, New Zealand and England terming the residential complex as "filthy and unlivable".

However, the situation has improved to a great extent with chief minister Sheila Dikshit and cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar personally monitoring the work at the complex.

Khanna also gave a detailed account of arrangements that have been put in place by Delhi police to ensure foolproof security in the city. The Lt governor has been looking after security related issues for the Games.
