4 ways to check your PF balance

The EPFO has availed various modes for individuals to check their balance.

Provident Fund (PF) is a social security scheme for employees wherein a certain percentage of money is deducted from your salary account. A similar percentage of amount is invested by the employer. 

One can check the PF account balance through various modes such as Umang App, EPFO portal, EPFO app, SMS, or by giving a missed call.

1. Check PF Balance using SMS:

In order to use the SMS facility, your mobile number must be registered on the Unified portal. You should also integrate your UAN number with KYC details such as Aadhaar card or PAN card or bank account details.

To know the PF balance via SMS, PF account holder needs to send an SMS to 7738299899 from your registered mobile and the text should include 'EPFOHO UAN'.

2. Check using EPFO portal:

To check the PF balance through EPFO portal, you need to follow below steps:

Step 1: Log in to the EPFO portal. Go to the tab 'Our Services' and choose the options 'for employees' from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: Then, click on the option 'Member passbook' under the option 'Services'
Step 3: A login page will appear. Enter your UAN number and password here after it has been activated. The EPF passbook will appear online where you can see your current balance with your current employer.

3. Check PF balance by a missed call:

To check your PF balance by giving a missed call, you need to link your UAN with your KYC details or register your mobile number with EPFO website. once it is done then:

Step 1: Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number
Step 2: After a missed call, you will receive an SMS providing you with your PF details

4 Check PF balance using Umang App:

Step 1: First you have to download and install the Umang App from Play store or iOS store
Step 2: On the home page of the app select 'Employee Centric Services' and enter your UAN number
Step 3: An OTP will be sent to the mobile registered with UAN. Enter the OTP number and you will be able to see PF balance.
