Officials said the cascading effect would keep trains late right through the evening rush hours.

Train services on the Central Railway line were running ten to fifteen minutes late on Wednesday evening after ND Panda, the motorman of a CST-Thane local alerted the authorities of a rail fracture on the slow line between CST and Masjid.
Work on repairing the line took 24 minutes between 6:10pm and 6:34pm and during this period trains had to be diverted to the fast line. A Thane and a Kalyan bound local was stranded behind the train being Panda was operating, said officials.
