The Anti-Corruption unit of Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday said that they are in the process of questioning the officers who were part of the four-member panel which had set the question papers for the recruitment of Lower Division clerks in the Navy. Two members of the panel are serving officers, while two of them are civilian officers.

“Their statements are vital to the investigation and hence their statements will be recorded” said DG (ACB), CBI.

CBI on Sunday had busted the scam after arresting four persons who are alleged to have leaked the question papers of the Indian Navy’s recruitment exam.

The syndicate was busted when the investigating agency raided a lodge in South Mumbai, where they found copies of the question papers of the Lower Division Clerk (LDC) examination along with their answer keys.

The officials said that the accused would charge each job aspirant anywhere between Rs15,000- 50,000.

The officials said that the paper could have been leaked through the chain from where the paper actually reaches the examination centre. Since the chain starts with the setting of the paper, even the role of board panelist is being probed.

Secondly, the sudden death of managing director of the printing press in Pune due to a cardiac failure has created yet another road-block in the investigation. The examination question papers were printed at his printing press, before being transported to Mumbai for the examination and there is every likelihood that the papers might have been leaked from the press while bringing it to Mumbai.

“The printing press has been sealed. The investigation at the press will resume only after the rituals of the deceased gets over” said a CBI official.
