Soon after the stampede at Elphinstone road station on Friday morning, politicians across party lines showed up at KEM Hospital, leading to even more chaotic scenes at the hospital.

Political leaders were a prime cause of hindrance to medical staff; at one point, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray was seen blocking the way for a stretcher in a narrow gangway.

The hospital's dean, Dr Avinash Supe, had a tough time repeating the details to each VIP. State disaster management officials as well as relief and rehabilitation department officials along were also seen bothering hospital staff.

Local MLA Ajay Choudhary, MP Kirit Somaiya, MLA Kalidas Kolambkar, Corporator Sachin Padwal also rushed to KEM Hospital. Former Lok Sabha MP Nilesh Rane reached the hospital.

MNS leaders Bala Nandgaoikar and Nitin Sardesai were followed by Thackeray. Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal also reached the hospital along with Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar and Education Minister Vinod Tawde.

After the BJP and Shiv Sena, it was the Congress delegation which comprised state unit president Ashok Chavan, Mumbai president Sanjay Nirupam. NCP leaders Sachin Ahir.
