The Amboli police are trying to investigate whether a wire used to steal and supply electricity to a slum was responsible for the death of 60-year-old Kashima Yudityar who died due to electrocution on Friday morning. Kashima accidentally touched an abandoned bus on which the allegedly stolen live wire had fallen passing current in the bus.

The police have conducted an inquiry of one person on Friday but no arrests were made so far. Locals told DNA that the shock may have been a result of the wire used to allegedly supply power illegally to the slums in the area.

Deceased Kashima sold vegetables to make her ends meet in an extended family. She was looking forward to the marriage of her granddaughter which was slated to happen in July. The family has taken Kashima's mortal remains to Chennai for her final rites.

"We have seized the wire which caused the lady's death and we asked have Adani electricity firm to give their report in two days. We conducted an inquiry on one person so far. We continue to investigate the matter," said senior inspector Bharat Gaikwad from Amboli police station.

Locals from the area said there are 10 rooms in Anna Nagar slum opposite Andheri RTO office and stealing electricity from meters is rampant. "We have instructed PWD inspector to visit the place and submit a report about the incident," informed the power firm official.
