The Mulund police has recently arrested two people for allegedly stealing debit card data, cloning the cards and siphoning off money. The duo has been identified as Karan alias Dhanesh Tandon, a Chhatisgarh native; Gudaji alias Vijay Reddy and his brother Maruti based in Belgaum.

In July, a man had approached the Mulund police claiming that someone had made a fraudulent transaction of Rs 24,000 from Dharwad in Karnataka using his debit card details, while the card was in his possession.

The police then made an inquiry with the bank and learnt that at least 64 customers of the bank had informed them about similar complaints.

“The bank told us that the customers had used their cards in four city based hotels. Probe revealed one Dhanesh Tandon had worked in these four hotels. He would take debit cards of the customers to pay the bill. Tandon was then picked up from Chhatisgarh,” said deputy commissioner of police, zone VII, Akhilesh Singh.
