Major Kaustubh Prakash Rane's family was in a state of shock when they were informed by the Army about Major Kaustubh's (29) death in a fierce battle between security forces and terrorists in Kashmir. Major Kaustubh (29) martyred while fighting with terrorists at Gurez sector in Bandipora district, Kashmir on Tuesday.

Kaustubh, a resident of Hiral Sagar building, Sheetal Nagar in Mira Road (E), is survived by his wife, two-year-old son, old parents and a sister. The Rane family hails from Vaibhavwadi in Sindhudurg. The family used to earlier stay at Kandivali. They shifted to Mira Road in 1989. "Kaustubh was a very good student and a good human being. Even as a teenager, he was determined to join the Army. He was the only person in his entire family who had joined the Army," said Rajesh Parab, a relative of Kaustubh.

Kaustubh had been serving in the Army for the past seven years. "In January, he had even received a medal from the President. He was due for a promotion in the next few months," Parab said. Kaustubh's body is likely to arrive in the city on today.
