Taking a dig at Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray without naming him, BJP Mumbai city chief Ashish Shelar on Thursday said that it was Thackeray's misfortune that he went for "mourning" at Azad Maidan on Wednesday.

Thackeray had visited Azad Maidan on Wednesday to meet agitating anganwadi workers and criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the state government for ignoring the issues of the workers.

Shelar, while speaking at a function to felicitate sportspersons, said that Thackeray's criticism was nothing more than mourning. He said that while the state government through its sports and youth welfare department was felicitating sportspersons who have made the country proud, some leaders were busy mourning during Navratri. Shelar commented, "It is their misfortune that they went for mourning despite festivities."

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana criticised the Union Government by citing an article by former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha. A Saamana editorial said that the development claims by the union government are without substance and, citing the criticism by Yashwant Sinha, said that those who ridiculed these claims were termed as ,Mad' but it seems that entire development or so called development is nothing but 'madness' meaning nothing is on ground.
