Maharashtra Area Development Authority (MHADA) has finally announced its lottery date, November 10, when it will be selling 819 homes in Mumbai through a lottery. The lottery has only eight homes for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), while the highest, 338 homes, are for the High Income Group (HIG). This is the first time that the authority's lottery has homes in Lower Parel, in south central Mumbai, as earlier the lottery mostly focused on the suburban areas of the city.

Registrations for the lottery begin on September 16 and applications will be accepted September 17 onwards. Advertisements for the lottery will be out on Friday.

The registration process will go on until October 21, while applications will be accepted until October 22 and payment of the earnest money can be made until October 24. The number of homes allotted to the Middle Income Group (MIG) is 289, while the homes allotted to Lower Income Group (LIG) are 192.

So far, this is the most delayed lottery by MHADA in the last decade. The authority usually sticks to the May 31 deadline but this year, due to the lack of availability of homes, MHADA had to delay the lottery. They had earlier planned to have the lottery in August but they couldn't find homes for the EWS category and hence delayed it.

The income groups are decided on the basis of the applicant's monthly salary. EWS is for individuals with a salary of up to Rs 25,000. The salary bracket for LIG is Rs 25,001 to Rs 50,000; for MIG, it is Rs 50,001 to 75,000; and for HIG, it is Rs 75,001 and above.

The EWS homes are located in Pratiksha Nagar, Chandivli, Mankhurd and other areas, while the LIG homes are in areas such as Kanamwar Nagar, Chandivli and Charkop. Homes for MIG are in Pratiksha Nagar, Goregaon and Malwani, while homes for HIG are in Lower Parel, Powai, Kandivli and Shimpoli.

According to a statement issued by MHADA, applicants can make their applications on the MHADA website.
