All India Congress Committee’s secretary Rahul Gandhi’s birthday was celebrated by Congressmen in Maharashtra in a low-key manner, and with the intention to spread some social messages.

“The Mumbai regional congress committee celebrated the day by planting tree saplings in the Mithi river area. We want to encourage protecting the environment in this era of global warming,” said an MRCC leader. MRCC president Kripashankar Singh, Arif Naseem Khan, Youth Congress leaders and other leaders were present too.

Youth Congress leaders also distributed notebooks to municipal school children. “We want to spread the message of education,” said Rajesh Ingle, the district vice president of the Youth Congress. Ingle said the Youth Congress party is in for a revolutionary change with Gandhi taking over the reigns.

“Gandhi has stopped all recommendations from legislatures, senior congressmen and ministers and has given total freedom to Youth leaders, from the taluka level to the very top,” said Ingle. “In the next 10 years, people will see a well governed, new youth party under the leadership of Gandhi,” added Ingle.

Meanwhile, other Congress leaders urged families to enrol their children in schools. “We went to remote adivasi areas to persuade the families to send their children to schools. This is just the beginning of the admission process and we are urging them to get their children enrolled,” said Yashomati Thakur, legislator of Amravati.
