The police have recovered several fake documents from German Bakery accused Himayat Baig and have assured stern action against those who help anti-social elements procure fake documents.

During searches, ATS officials recovered three voter ID cards and one handicap card from Baig’s residence in Udgir. While two election cards were issued from Udgir, one was issued from Beed.

“The election cards carried his photo but were in the name of Imamuddin Shaikh, Khayyum Shaikh and Ahmed Baig, with age being shown as 29 or 30. The handicap card was issued in Ahmed Baig’s name, which declared him as speech and hearing impaired. The purpose of issuing the handicap card was to escape if he got caught after the blast, claiming to be deaf and mute,” said a senior ATS official.

The police have also seized xerox copies of five other election cards that carried his photographs, four of which were issued under Hindu names and one under a Muslim name. Three were issued from Latur, and one each from Beed and Aurangabad,” the officer said.

A driving license issued from Latur in the name of Prakash Bung was also recovered. The police also seized nine blank caste certificates signed by authorities. These documents, said the police, could have been used to procure other documents like driving license, PAN cards and to purchase SIM cards.

“We have identified some agents who had helped Baig in procuring driving licenses and other cards. We are also trying to verify how Baig managed to get blank caste certificates. Action will be taken against those who helped him in getting these documents. We will ask them to explain why and how they issued government cards to people without background checks,” said a senior ATS official.
