Governor and Chancellor Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Sunday directed the acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, professor Devanand Shinde, to declare 'expeditiously and on top priority' the results of all the 11,981 students whose results are reserved. The governor also directed that the re-evaluation of answer papers, with regard to 46,806 requests received by the University, be carried out in a timely manner.

The governor, along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis and Minister of Higher and Technical Education Vinod Tawde held a review meeting at Raj Bhavan on Sunday. The governor reviewed the progress of the declaration of results of various examinations conducted by the University of Mumbai in Summer 2017.

In January 2017, the then Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh had announced that the university would conduct on-screen assessment of over 19 lakh answer sheets to ensure a transparent, tamper-proof assessment system.

However, after a long delay in the tendering process (for the handling of the on-screen assessment), assessment began only in the month of May, amidst several glitches in the online system. The Governor then asked the university to declare all the results by July 31, but along with several other deadlines, the university missed this one as well.

After a series of glitches and delays, the university declared the results of all the 477 courses on September 19. However, the results of 9,400 students are still being held in reserve.

The meeting also reviewed preparations made by the university for the conduct of Winter Examinations scheduled to be conducted between November 8 and December 20. The governor directed that the results of the winter examination should be preferably declared within 30 days and, in a worst case scenario, within 45 days, as mandated by the Public Universities Act.
