The death toll in the February 14 CSMT bridge collapse increased to seven after a 57-year-old woman, Nanda Kadam, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

For nearly a month, she was being treatment at the MGM hospital in Vashi. On the fateful day, Kadam was on her way to board a train home when the Himalaya bridge collapsed. Following her injuries, she underwent two surgeries, but didn't recover and was later put on oxygen support.

In the aftermath of the collapse, auditing firm DD Desai was blacklisted and its Director, Niraj Kumar Desai, was arrested on March 18. He is currently in judicial custody. Police have also arrested BMC Assistant Engineer SF Kakulte and Executive Engineer AR Patil.

Meanwhile, acting on the Bombay HC's suggestion for periodical structural audits of the bridges with high footfall, BMC will approach IIT-B and VJTI to undertake the task. The audit of all 344 bridges in the city was previously also ordered after the collapse of a portion of Gokhale Bridge in Andheri on July 3, 2018.
