The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking has asked the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to assess all the requirement of power before placing a request for supply of electricity to Wankhede stadium during the World Cup.
The World Cup will commence from early February next year.
SP Bedekar, BEST chief engineer (Planning), in a letter has asked the association to figure out the amount of power needed for Wankhede stadium, Garware Club and the Cricket Centre building. This, he said, would help the power utility to install the infrastructure in time.
In October 2009, the association had requested for 2,231 MW electric load for these places during the World Cup.
Bedekar has mentioned that the MCA is not clear about the required quantum of electricity load and the supply voltage.
Earlier, the letter said, it asked for 1,072 MW, but later the association sent a request asking for only 11 Kilo Volt stating that they would use diesel generators to light up the flood light towers.
However, in the next meeting with the BEST committee chairman, MCA office bearers said that they would require additional load for the flood light towers.
The BEST has now asked the association to come up with a detailed plan so that it helps them in laying high-voltage cables of 1.7 kilometres from the nearest receiving.
