The Shivajinagar police on Saturday arrested four Congress activists for ransacking their party’s office at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday to protest against a derogatory visual on the Facebook wall of Aba Bagul, group leader of the Congress in the PMC.

The arrested have been identified as Rajendra Laxman Lagas (45) of Tawre Colony, Sunil Venkatrao Shinde (38), Rupesh Rupchand Lagas, both residents of Parvati Darshan and Rajesh Mohan Ingawale.

After they were produced before the court, they were remanded in magisterial custody. The suspects moved a bail application before the court which was granted subsequently on a personal bond of Rs5,000 each.

On Friday afternoon, a group of 20 activists gathered on the third floor of the PMC building and took out a march to the Congress party office. They were raising slogans in support of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

They barged into the party office, where they threw chairs around, threw copies of the letter they had sent to party leaders and smashed a glass door.
