A study for development of Taj Trapezium zone has sighted concerns on condition of heritage buildings and water bodies in Bharatpur district and has also suggested development of a tourism circuit between Bharatpur, Deeg and Fatehpur Sikri. “There seems to be no recreational space for residents in Bharatpur. The many lakes and water channels hold a strong potential to be developed as recreational spots for the tourists as well as the local residents,” states the report on Taj Trapezium by School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
The report has been drafted for development of areas adjoining the iconic monument Taj Mahal at Agra. It focuses on all aspects related to long time conservation of the monument and thus suggest improvements to be made in all neigbouring areas that exert influence on Agra. Bharatpur remains the only district of Rajasthan to be part of the trapezium.
In a bid to motivate development of non-polluting business in the area, the report insists on development of tourism opportunities. It finds immense potential for it in Bharatpur but in underutilized. The neglect of these has also been sighted to have created problems for local citizens instead.
“The natural hydrological system is under threat due to sporadic city expansion which is also loosing the potential for attracting unique flaura and fauna,” reads the report. Similar issues area also apparent in the Deeg town of the district. The town though is famous for its palace and gardens has been losing its charm in absence of due upkeep. The report proposes that a linear circuit of tourism could be developed between Bharatpur, Deeg and Fatehpur Sikri to provide tourists arriving to visit Taj more options for recreation.
