Woman summoned for false evidence in divorce case

NEW DELHI: A court here has summoned a female dentist and the medical superintendent of a local hospital here for allegedly furnishing false proof of income in order to obtain higher maintenance from her NRI husband in a divorce case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sandeep Yadav summoning Dr Shalini Bansal and Dr G S Soin, on May 12, 2008 held, "from the averments of the complaint, read with supporting evidence offences under Sections (including) 193 (false evidence), 197 (issuing false certificate), 199 (false evidence in court), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC are disclosed against the accused."

Her husband Rajiv Tayal has accused her of adopting a modus operandi in which a girl 'traps' an NRI boy, marries him, lives with him abroad for six months or more and files a case of divorce after returning to India and presses for maintenance.

Shalini Bansal is accused of submitting in a court, trying her divorce case, a certificate allegedly issued by Dr Soin, Medical Superintendent of the Guru Govind Singh Hospital (GGSH) to the effect that she had not received any salary for the last two months then.

Tayal, an aeronautical engineer working in the US has in his complaint filed through his counsel K K Jha also accused her of stating on oath before the court on August eight, 2005 that she was not receiving any salary from the GGS Hospital, where she was employed as Dental Surgeon, since December 2005.

She also allegedly averred in her affidavit that she had never indulged in any private practice or any consultancy with any organisation before and after her marriage. This was done in order to influence the maintenance amount to be awarded by the court, Jha said.
