The accused allegedly raped the victim and threatened to circulate the video on social media if she opened her mouth
The list of self-styled godmen getting arrested for raping women does not seem to end. From Asaram Bapu to Gurmeet Ram Rahim, and more recently Falahari Baba from Rajasthan, the names go on. Now, self-styled baba Siya Ram Das of Udaseen Akhara in Uttar Pradesh was arrested on charges of rape.
The baba claimed that he was associated with Udaseen Akhara, a prominent Akhara of Hindu sadhus and saints. But Mahendra Giri, the Head of the Akhara Parishad, has rejected his claims. “The arrested Baba Siya Ram Das has nothing to do with us. He is a fraud and fake Baba,” said Giri.
The victim was allegedly sold by her relatives to a female disciple of Baba Siya Ram Das for Rs 50,000 about eight months ago. The victim was jobless and her relatives told her that the lady would get her a job in one of the Baba’s schools at his ashram in Mishrikh, 25 km from Sitapur district.
The self-styled godman owns a 250-acre Ashram in Mishrikh, from where he also ran a girl’s school. One of his followers, Mintu Singh, is the principal of the school.
“I was taken to Baba’s Ashram in Lucknow, Faizabad and Bara Banki by the Principal and finally to Mishrikh where I was raped by the baba. He also made video of the same and threatened me with it,” alleged the victim.
After rape, the victim was sent to Agra Ashram where she was kept for about eight months before returning to Mishrikh Ashram again. “I was raped by others during my stay in Agra. The baba raped me after I returned to Mishrikh Ashram. Somehow, I managed to call the police from Baba’s mobile,” said the victim.
The victim has also alleged that the baba was running a sexual racket in the ashram through the school. “Many girls were raped, but were too scared because he threatened to circulate their videos on WhatsApp,” the victim alleged.
The Sitapur SSP MP Singh confirmed that the girl was rescued by the Mishrikh Police from the baba’s ashram after the distress call on Tuesday. “We have recorded victim’s statement and based on that arrested and booked Baba Siya Ram Das under Section 376 of the IPC,” he said.
“We are cross-checking her allegations against the godman. We will slap more charges on him if they are found to be true,” the police officer added.
The self-styled godman has, however, rubbished the allegations, claiming that someone has conspired to malign his name by using her.
