As Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav ruled out forming any new party as of now, 'upset' brother Shivpal Yadav may float another party, said reports.

“Mulayam’s move has made Shivpal believe that he has been ditched. He had already announced a secular front under Mulayam’s leadership but when he (Mulayam) declined this at the last moment, Shivpal decided to skip the press meet (on Monday),” a leader close to Shivpal told Indian Express.

Mulayam reportedly also tried to convince Shivpal to stay on and keep his Jaswant Nagar Assembly seat. However, Shivpal refused and did not accompany Mulayam to the press meet.

Shivpal has won five times from the Jaswant Nagar Assembly seat.

Last week, speculation was rife in political circles that the 77-year-old SP patriarch Mulayam was likely to announce a new outfit at the press conference along with virtually defunct Lok Dal, while retaining the 'samajwadi' tag in its name.

However, putting a lid on speculation that he could part ways amid the continuing battle for supremacy in the party, Mulayam Singh said that his blessings were with his son Akhilesh Yadav though he did not agree with the decisions made by him.

Responding to a volley of questions, Mulayam said, "I am not forming any new party as of now."

Shivpal had announced in June that he would float the Samajwadi Secular Front "to fight communal forces".

Both Mulayam and Shivpal have been sidelined by Akhilesh ever since he snatched the crown of SP chief from his father at the party's national convention here on January 1.

Taking full control of the party after being crowned as its head and alloted the 'bicycle' symbol by the EC on January 16, Akhilesh has been going full throttle consolidating his grip over the party.
