Jayesh Patel, 35, worked in Hinjewadi and lived in Vasant Vihar Apartments with his 30-year-old wife Bhumika and their son Naksh.
An IT professional, his wife and their four-year-old child were found dead inside their apartment on Baner-Pashan Link Road in Pune on Thursday night. The child suffered from epilepsy and police suspect the couple committed suicide after he passed away.
Jayesh Patel, 35, worked in Hinjewadi and lived in Vasant Vihar Apartments with his 30-year-old wife Bhumika and their son Naksh. The parents were found hanging from the ceiling fan late on Thursday night, while Naksh's body was found on a bed.
"There had been no movement in the flat for two days," said a senior police officer from Chatuhshrungi police station, "Jayesh's colleagues were trying to call him but got no response.
"On Thursday night, some colleagues inquired with the neighbours, after which the neighbours contacted the police."
A team of Chatuhshrungi police reached Patels' home and found the main door locked from inside. When they broke in, they found the bodies of all the family members.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone III) Ganesh Shinde said, "The medical reports do not indicate that Naksh was murdered. The real cause of his death is yet to be ascertained; we are waiting for the post-mortem report. However, it is clear that his parents committed suicide."
Neighbours informed the police about Naksh's epilepsy. "His health deteriorated a few days ago and he had to be hospitalised," says Shinde. "Prima facie, it appears that Naksh might have died due an illness, and his parents took the drastic step out of grief."
The Patels had recently shifted to Vasant Vihar. "The family purchased the flat and they moved in last Diwali. Jayesh earned a handsome salary and nobody in the building complex thinks they faced any financial issues," says a neighbour. "The family was concerned about Naksh's illness but we never thought that the couple would take such a drastic step."
