Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, October 31, paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary, at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat.

On October 31, 2018, on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, PM Modi had unveiled the 'Statue of Unity' in Gujarat's Narmada district.

With a height of 182 meters, the Sardar Patel statue is 100 times larger than the average person. The total height of the Sardar Patel statue is double that of New York's Statue of Liberty.

The day is also observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) across the country. The Prime Minister also attended the 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' parade on this occasion.

PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown in March, to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, celebrating the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

He will address 428 Officer Trainees belonging to various Civil Services currently undergoing the Foundation Course at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie through video conference.

The Prime Minister will also launch the seaplane service connecting the Statue of Unity in Kevadia with Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad.

Earlier today the Prime Minister tweeted, "A humble tribute to Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the pioneer of national unity and integrity, on his birth anniversary. Tributes to the great Sardar Patel on his Jayanti."

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as Sardar Patel, played a key role in the Indian freedom movement.

He is credited with uniting all 562 princely states of the pre-independent country to build the Republic of India.

A truly great social leader, his work was characterised by excellence. He has made his spot in the history of our nation and in our hearts for eternity. He played an instrumental role in India's struggle for independence, is hailed even today for his contributions. 

Sardar Patel passed away on December 15, 1950.
