Rajasthan govt promises to implement quota for EBCs

After successfully solving the Gurjars reservation issue by assuring them quota in OBC category, the Rajasthan government now faces a new challenge of EBC (economic backward class) who wants 14 per cent reservation.

A meeting was held on Monday afternoon between the social justice minister Arun Chaturvedi and representatives of Rajput outfits. The minister assured them to finalise a survey of the backward upper castes till December to initiate the procedure of giving them the reservation.

"The minister told us that the government is currently conducting a survey across the state to support the quota demand of the EBC. However, the flood has affected many areas including Barmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Sikar halting the survey. The minister assured us to finish the survey report by December," said Karan Rathore, spokesperson of Rashtriya Karani Sena, an outfit which carried out a rally to press their demand of EBC in March this year.

Apart from this, the outfit raised the demand of fresh recommendation to the CBI into the killing of Chatur Singh by police, to which the minister said that it was related to home department and not his ministry.
