An official spokesperson said that Omar Abdulla briefed the governor about the measures being taken towards the restoration of normalcy in the Valley.
Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today called on governor NN Vohra and briefed him about the steps being taken by his govern ment to restore normalcy in the Kashmir Valley, which has been in the grip of worst spell of unrest.
"The chief minister called on the governor and discussed, for over an hour, the obtaining situation in the state," an official spokesperson said.
He said Omar briefed the governor about the measures being
taken towards the restoration of normalcy in the Valley.
The governor stressed the need for ensuring effective security of the minority communities and the institutions run by them, including their places of worship in Kashmir.
Vohra voiced grave concern over the most irreparable damage being done to the academic calendar of students at all levels and said there was need to take all possible measures to resume academic activities.
"The high importance of ensuring the functioning of the administrative apparatus was also underlined, particularly the
need to ensure the delivery of public services and meeting the day to day needs of the common man," the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the state government has directed all the deputy commissioners and district officers to undertake extensive tours of their districts particularly far-flung, remote and difficult areas every Wednesday to address the grievances of the public.
The officers have also been directed to conduct meetings at block level with the general public and promptly take action for redressing the problems highlighted by them.
According to a circular issued here, ministers have been asked not to plan or conduct tours to the districts and fix any meetings on Wednesdays, which would hamper the new assignment of the officers.
"The administrative secretaries and heads of departments have also been directed not to fix departmental meetings in the civil secretariat or at state headquarters on Wednesdays," the circular said.
It said the deputy commissioners and district officers have also been directed to submit copies of tour notes to the concerned administrative departments with a copy to chief minister's secretariat.
