Air travellers won’t need ID card or any other document to show at airports in near future. Civil aviation ministry is working on a plan in within a fortnight on selected important airports following which airtickets’ PNR will be linked with Aadhar card.

The plan is part of Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s dream of ‘digital India’.  Techno friendly civil aviation minister Jayant Sinha is keen to implement the new system. After this a flyer’s Aadhar card will be punched in punching machine at the entry gate of an airport. All the details will come up and the passengers would be able to enter from the main gate.

Later, the passenger can collect boarding pass by punching Aadhar card at the electronic machine to register the PNR. The boarding pass too will be in digital form hence when the passenger reaches third gate for security checking he will be required to give his finger print. The CISF personnel at the security gate will be able to check all the details of a passenger from boarding pass to ID card on a screen.

Further, seat number too will be decided on the basis of digital boarding pass as the same details will be available to crew members as well.

This move will provide passengers freedom from hassles of carrying ID card and other documents, which is a welcome step by the civil aviation ministry.
