The foggy weather condition which forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to abandon his visit to Bahraich—which is close to the Terai region of Nepal—on Sunday, however, couldn’t deter him from addressing the crowd over cell phone from Lucknow.

The IAF chopper carrying the Prime Minister had to return to Lucknow after it failed to land there due to poor visibility. The Prime Minister was scheduled to address the rally at 1 pm, but finally addressed it around 3 pm  through his cell phone.

Talking about the removal of poverty and ‘goonda raj’ from Uttar Pradesh, Modi said the BJP is committed to empowerment poor. “Today there is gundaraj in the state. Everyone is fed up of this lawlessness. Even the police is unable to stop the goondas (goons),” Modi said.

Targeting the Samajwadi Party (SP), Modi said: “If you have to take your state forward, you will have to throw out those backing these goondas. And the BJP will do that.”

“I can’t understand the discomfort of the ruling SP and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) at the Central government’s fight against black money,” Modi said in connection with his demonetization move.

“They (SP and BSP) are seldom on the same page on an issue. But nowadays, they are speaking in one voice,” said Modi, adding that the fight against black money and graft would go on and all those hoarding unaccounted money would be caught in the coming days.

BSP supremo Mayawati, meanwhile, hit out at Modi for his remarks, saying the leader of a party with absolute majority should not be making such allegations and his “emotional blackmail” would not work.
