Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday returned a hung verdict with PDP as a dominant party that can tie up either with the Congress or BJP in forming the Government as BJP and its allies appeared headed for capturing power in Jharkhand.
PDP emerged as the single largest party by bagging 28 seats, while BJP also made gains by winning 25, all in Jammu, but it failed to make inroads in the Valley.
Outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah won from Beerwah but lost in Sonawar while his National Conference, which was the single largest party in 2008 assembly polls with 28 seats, bagged 15 seats this time.
Congress, which was part of the ruling coalition led by Omar, won 12 seats and was ahead in one. It had won 17 seats in the last election.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that the priority at present is not to cobble up a government but to explore the possibilities of forming a government which would be able to deliver her party’s agenda.
With BJP emerging as potential kingmaker in Jammu and Kashmir, party chief Amit Shah did not rule out joining hands with either PDP or National Conference saying "all options are open".

Cobbling up new government will take time, says PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti
The PDP which has emerged as the single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir appeared to be keeping options open in forming the next government in the state.
"We will not cobble together a government by hook or crook. It will take time to explore possibilities and formation of government to meet the people's expectations and good governance. It is difficult to say when it will materialise," PDP President Mehbooba Mufti told reporters. Read more

Addressing the press conference, BJP president Amit shah said, " 2014 has been a year of unprecedented success for BJP. It was our promise to give full majority government to Jharkhand, and I assure the people of Jharkhand that the party will deliver good governance.
He further added, "I would also like to extend my heartiest congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji on this occasion. After Lok Sabha elections BJP has climbed the ladder of success one after another. We formed the first BJP government in Maharashtra. In Haryana from four seat we reached to 50. In Jammu and Kashmir, we have bettered our position to emerge as a relevant political force. In real terms, the abhiyan of Congress 'Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' is moving ahead in a real sense.

Speaking about the possible post-poll alliance with the PDP, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "Call has to be taken by PDP whether they want to go with secular or communal forces. BJP and Congress can never go together. They (PDP) know what is good for them."

It will be easier to come together with Congress than BJP to form government in Jammu and Kashmir, senior PDP leader and MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig said on Tuesday. While Omar contested from Beerwah seat in Budgam district and Sonawar seat in Srinagar, Sayeed is seeking re-election from Anantnag Assembly segment in the south Kashmir district.
