After suspension of five excise officials, the Yogi Adityanath government has suspended ten police officials and placed former Samajwadi Party MLA Ramswaroop Singh Gaur under house arrest in connection with the hooch tragedy in Kanpur City and Kanpur Dehat (Rural), in which 15 people were killed.

The DIG Law and Order Praveen Kumar said that three sub-inspectors and four constables were suspended in Kanpur Dehat, while in SHO Sachendi Police Station, two beat in-charges were placed under suspension in Kanpur City for failing to keep track on supply and sale of illicit country-made liquor in their respective areas.

Kumar said that the police have recovered a large quantity and stock of spurious liquor, chemicals, pouches, bottles and caps from the residence of former SP MLA Ramswaroop Singh Gaur.

The 82-year-old ex-SP MLA has been placed under house arrest by Kanpur Dehat police. The police have already arrested his grandsons Vinay and Neeraj Singh, main accused in the hooch tragedy. Two FIRs have been lodged against the Gaurs, his grandsons and 14 others under Sections 304 and 308 of the IPC (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Excise Act.

"He (former SP MLA) will be arrested after we complete investigation and collect all evidences of his involvement in manufacturing illicit liquor and its trade," said a senior police official.
