A senior professor of the Madurai Kamraj University was allegedly stabbed multiple times by former guest lecturer on campus, media reports said on Tuesday.

Selwyn Jenefa an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Journalism and Science Communication at Madurai Kamaraj University was reportedly stabbed 13 times by an ex-employee over loss of job.

According to The Hindu, the accused, Jothimurugan was a guest lecturer at the university. He was miffed that S Jenefa had not renewed her contract.

Jothimurugan was handling the practical sessions of students last year. But due to several complaints, Professor Jenefa didn't renew his contract.

He kept on visiting her and sought reappointment. In fact, there are reports that he tried to bribe the 40-year-old professor.

On Tuesday, he was waiting for her outside her office on the campus.

Around 10:30 am, he entered her office and allegedly stabbed her with a knife. He tried to flee from there, but the students caught him and handed him over to the police.

Professor Jenefa has sustained injuries in her neck and stomach. He condition is said to be stable.

Jothimurugan had studied at the same university and was employed briefly. According to media reports, the wife of the 32-year-old accused had left him soon after he lost his job.
